“Bikini pics” offered, Alex Pereira in HW, and a spat between Conor McGregor and the UFC: MMA News Roundup

Following a fan’s suggestion that Tom Aspinall should fight Alex Pereira next, the fighter provided a succinct answer to the suggestion. Meanwhile, Brazil’s Pereira is the reigning UFC light heavyweight champion and a past champion of the UFC middleweight division. Aspinall, who hails from the United Kingdom, is currently serving as the interim champion of the UFC heavyweight division.

In the fight that was the co-headlining event of UFC 295, which took place in November 2023, Aspinall won the interim UFC heavyweight title by knocking out Sergei Pavlovich in the first round. Aside from that, in the main event of UFC 295, which was a bout between two heavyweights, Pereira won the UFC light heavyweight title by knocking out Jiri Prochazka in the second round.

Jon Jones, the current heavyweight champion of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), is now on an injury break. According to Dana White, the CEO of the UFC, Jones is likely to meet Stipe Miocic next. It is generally agreed upon that Aspinall would battle the winner of the Jones-Miocic match later in the year 2024.

The conclusion that can be drawn from this is that it is possible that Aspinall will be need to sit out for a number of months. Aside from that, it is not known who Pereira will compete against in his subsequent bout inside the octagon. There has been no formal announcement on the next bouts for either Aspinall or Pereira as of yet.

After Alex Pereira published a mysterious post on social media, many people in the mixed martial arts community began to assume that he would be interested in competing for the heavyweight title in the UFC in the near future. Poatan posted the following on his Instagram account:

“30 + 300 = 3.”

Fans of mixed martial arts believe that Roberto Pereira has dropped hints that he will put on weight, compete in the heavyweight division at UFC 300, and become the first fighter in UFC history to win a title in all three weight classes. In order to add fuel to the fire of the rumors concerning the fight, Tom Aspinall published a social media post with a Christmas theme that used an image from a press conference held at UFC 295, in which he shows himself seated next to Pereira.

Alex Pereira vs. Tom Aspinall rumors swirl after Dana White alludes to super fight at UFC 300

In an appearance on the Full Send podcast that took place during the end of the previous month, Dana White made a suggestion that the promotion is organizing a super bout for UFC 300. White stated that there is a superfight in the works, and it does not feature the UFC megastar Conor McGregor. This was in response to the question of whether or not he believes any superfights would take place within the next year or two. White was quoted as saying:

I am unable to discuss it since we are currently discussing one that has only recently surfaced, which is why I am unable to talk about it. On the other hand, you are aware. To what extent does McGregor play a role in this? McGregor would be involved in every fight that you would consider to be a super fight, but this particular fight is not one of those fights. I do not.”

MMA expert Chael Sonnen recently expressed his opinion that the mega fight that Dana White has been referring to would be a welterweight fight between Leon Edwards, the current champion of the UFC welterweight division, and Islam Makhachev, the current kingpin of the UFC lightweight division. With that being said, the vast majority of mixed martial arts fans are of the opinion that a prospective super battle between Alex Pereira and Tom Aspinall at the heavyweight division is more likely to take place at UFC 300 on April 13, 2024.
