Early Life of RDA Rafael Dos Anjos

Rafael Dos Anjos claimed to have been a troublesome child in a 2014 interview, getting into confrontations in his Rio de Janeiro city of Niterói.  At the age of nine, he began studying Brazilian jiu-jitsu with Daniel Matheus.  Rafael Dos Anjos claims that after he started practising jiu jitsu, he stopped fighting in public. Career of RDA in Mixed martial arts

In his home Brazil, dos Anjos spent the most of his early professional life. He had a 2-2 record at the start of his career, with both of his defeats coming by a split decision. Dos Anjos then amassed 9 victories in a row, including 6 submissions. His 11-2 record in local competition was sufficient for the UFC to contact him.

RDA UFC Fights and Records

At UFC 91, dos Anjos made his UFC debut and fell to Jeremy Stephens. After an uppercut defeated dos Anjos in the third round, the fight was declared over.

At UFC Fight Night 18, dos Anjos fought Tyson Griffin for the second time in the UFC. Dos Anjos was defeated in the back-and-forth conflict by a unanimous vote. Fight of the Night honours were given to the contest.

Originally set to meet Matt Wiman at UFC 103 on September 19, 2009, dos Anjos instead faced Rob Emerson due to Wiman’s knee ailment.   By unanimous vote, dos Anjos earned a much-needed victory.

At UFC Fight Night 20, dos Anjos went on to defeat Kyle Bradley by unanimous decision.

Dos Anjos defeated Terry Etim in UFC 111 by armbar submission in the second round, winning Submission of the Night.

On August 7, 2010, Clay Guida and dos Anjos squared off at UFC 117. [20] Guida seemed to damage dos Anjos’ jaw with a hook in the opening round, and after dos Anjos tapped from pressure being given to his jaw while Guida had arm and head control, Guida won the fight via submission (jaw injury).

After filling in for an injured Evan Dunham at UFC 132 on July 2, 2011, dos Anjos went up against George Sotiropoulos. Dos Anjos demonstrated his significantly improved striking abilities by using a right hand to finish Sotiropoulos in the first round.

On November 19, 2011, dos Anjos competed against Gleison Tibau at UFC 139. He was defeated by a narrow margin.

On May 15, 2012, at UFC on Fuel TV: The Korean Zombie vs. Poirier, dos Anjos fought Kamal Shalorus. After felling Shalorus with a head kick, dos Anjos submitted him through rear-naked choke in the first round.

Dos Anjos, who replaced injured Paul Taylor in the bout against Shalorus, rapidly recovered to take on Anthony Njokuani on July 11, 2012, at UFC on Fuel TV: Munoz vs. Weidman. He defeated Njokuani in both the striking and grappling departments to win the fight by unanimous decision.

On November 17, 2012, dos Anjos squared off against Mark Bocek at UFC 154. He prevailed by unanimous vote and once more had the upper hand in standup and ground combat.

On May 18, 2013, dos Anjos competed against Evan Dunham at UFC on FX 8. He received a unanimous decision victory. However, there was some debate because 10 out of 10 media outlets gave Dunham the victory.

On August 28, 2013, dos Anjos and Donald Cerrone squared off at UFC Fight Night 27. He prevailed by unanimous judgement in the match.

On February 22, 2014, dos Anjos was scheduled to compete in UFC 170 against Rustam Khabilov. But in the days before the event, the match was cancelled. Khabib Nurmagomedov was the opponent for dos Anjos on April 19, 2014, during UFC on Fox 11. He was defeated by a score of unanimous decisions.

On June 7, 2014, dos Anjos fought Jason High at UFC Fight Night 42. In the second round, he defeated his opponent by TKO.

On August 23, 2014, dos Anjos faced former lightweight champion Benson Henderson in the main event of UFC Fight Night 49. He knocked Henderson out in the opening round after dropping him with a flying knee and then finishing him out with a left hook. He was the only guy to stop Henderson by strikes thanks to the victory, which also won him his first Performance of the Night bonus.

At UFC on Fox 13, dos Anjos and Nate Diaz squared off on December 13, 2014. He received a unanimous decision victory. He dominated the first two rounds with powerful leg kicks and superior striking, with dos Anjos controlling the third round on the mat.

On March 14, 2015, at UFC 185, dos Anjos competed against Anthony Pettis for the UFC Lightweight Championship. Dominantly, dos Anjos prevailed by unanimous decision in the fight. Dos Anjos disclosed following the match that his MCL had only recently been torn. He received a Performance of the Night bonus for the victory once more.

On December 19, 2015, dos Anjos fought Donald Cerrone once more in the main event of UFC on Fox 17 to make his first title defence. The quickest finish ever for the UFC Lightweight belt, he won the bout via TKO just 66 seconds into the first round. Dos Anjos received his third Performance of the Night bonus award thanks to the victory as well.

Dos Anjos was scheduled to defend his lightweight championship against Conor McGregor on March 5, 2016, at UFC 196. Dos Anjos, though, was forced to withdraw from the bout on February 23 after injuring his foot in practise, it was revealed.

On July 7, 2016, at UFC Fight Night 90, dos Anjos faced Eddie Alvarez in his second championship defence. Despite entering the fight as a three-to-one favourite to win, he was defeated via TKO in the opening round. After the Alvarez fight, rumours surfaced that dos Anjos had fainted briefly just before entering the ring, and that this had been caused by the arduous weight cut.

Rafael Dos Anjos Move to Welterweight

On June 17, 2017, at UFC Fight Night: Holm vs. Correia, dos Anjos competed in a welterweight match against former Strikeforce champion Tarec Saffiedine. He prevailed by unanimous decision (30–27, 30–27, and 29–28).

Neil Magny and dos Anjos squared off on September 9, 2017, at UFC 215. He submitted in the opening round using an arm-triangle choke. Dos Anjos received his fourth Performance of the Night bonus award thanks to this victory as well.

On December 16, 2017, dos Anjos competed against Robbie Lawler in the main event of UFC on Fox: Lawler vs. dos Anjos in a championship eliminator. Dos Anjo’s fighting strategy strongly emphasised low leg kicks and regular combos of body blows and leg kicks. He prevailed via unanimous decision.

On June 9, 2018, dos Anjos competed against Colby Covington at UFC 225 for the interim UFC welterweight title. He was defeated in the fight by a consensus vote.

On November 30, 2018, at The Ultimate Fighter 28 Finale, dos Anjos faced Kamaru Usman. He was defeated by a unanimous decision.

On May 18, 2019, dos Anjos faced Kevin Lee in Lee’s welterweight debut at UFC Fight Night 152. In the fourth round, he submitted with an arm triangle to win the bout.

On July 20, 2019, dos Anjos and Leon Edwards squared off on UFC on ESPN 4. He was defeated by a score of unanimous decisions.

At UFC Fight Night 166 on January 25, 2020, dos Anjos squared off against Michael Chiesa. He was defeated by a score of unanimous decisions.

On October 24, 2020, dos Anjos was scheduled to make his return to the lightweight division at UFC 254 against Islam Makhachev. On October 8, 2020, it was revealed that dos Anjos had tested positive for COVID-19, and as a result, he had been disqualified from the fight. The matchup was kept the same and moved to UFC Fight Night: Felder vs. dos Anjos on November 14, 2020.

On November 8, it was revealed that Makhachev had to withdraw from the competition because of injuries. It was quickly revealed that Paul Felder agreed to step up and take Makhachev’s place with five days’ notice. Dos Anjos committed to competing in the lightweight class and inked a new six-fight contract with the UFC at the same time. Felder was ultimately defeated by dos Anjos in a split decision.

He won the Fight of the Night prizes for this battle. The rescheduled fight against Makhachev was set to occur at UFC 267 on October 30, 2021. However, dos Anjos was once more forced to withdraw from the competition due to an injury, and Dan Hooker took his place. 

Rafael Fiziev and dos Anjos were slated to fight on February 19, 2022, at UFC Fight Night 201. However, due to Fiziev’s visa concerns, the fight was postponed to UFC 272. Fiziev had to withdraw a week before the competition because he tested positive for COVID-19; Renato Moicano took his place with only 4 days’ notice and a catchweight of 160 pounds. Dos Anjos prevailed by unanimous decision in the match.

For the third time, the fight between dos Anjos and Fiziev will air on UFC on ESPN on July 9, 2022. In round five, he was knocked out of the bout.

On December 3, 2022, Dos Anjos fought welterweight Bryan Barberena on UFC on ESPN 42. In round two, he prevailed via neck crank. Dos Anjos is the first fighter in UFC history to achieve 8 hours of combat time after this match, surpassing Frankie Edgar’s previous record of 5 hours.

Dos Anjos is renowned for his physical prowess, powerful takedown skills, and aggressive, high-volume striking.
