Superlek Kiatmoo9, the reigning ONE flyweight kickboxing world champion, defeated Tagir ‘Samingpri’ Khalilov of Russia by way of a technical knockout in the second round. The fight took place in a short amount of time.
After Superlek failed to make weight the night before, the two flyweight elites competed against each other in a catchweight Muay Thai match. After Superlek’s failure to make weight, the two negotiated the terms for the bout to continue. On Friday, July 14, the bout took place as part of ONE bout Night 12 at the Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand. The venue was completely sold out.
Superlek was the one to emerge victorious after everything was said and done. He kept the pressure on Khalilov throughout a one-sided beatdown and won via technical knockout.
Superlek reiterated his want to battle his opponents Rodtang Jitmuangnon and Jonathan Haggerty during his post-fight interview with ONE Championship broadcast analyst Mitch Chilson, who is a veteran of the organization.
The superstar from Thailand stated:
“I’m not happy with my performance, and my goal in the sport of Muay Thai is to remain at the top of my weight class. I would like to go take on Rodtang, but regardless of the outcome, I would also like to take on Haggerty. I’m still interested in meeting up with Haggerty.
Rodtang is the longtime reigning ONE flyweight Muay Thai world champion, and the two have been headed toward one other for a considerable amount of time. Despite this, there has been considerable difficulties in staging a battle between Superlek and “The Iron Man,” regardless of the reason for this.
On the other hand, ‘The General’ Jonathan Haggerty is now the defending ONE bantamweight Muay Thai world champion. Superlek challenged Haggerty to a fight a few weeks ago.
Will it be possible for Superlek to coax Rodtang and Haggerty into participating in a pair of superfights with him? Stay tuned to Sportskeeda for the latest information as the story develops.
In addition, as a result of his performance versus Khalilov, Superlek was awarded a bonus of $50,000 USD. Amazon Prime Video will broadcast the entirety of ONE Fight Night 12: Superlek vs. Khalilov for viewers in the United States and Canada.
