The World Master IBJJF Jiu-Jitsu Championship 2023 was won by Demetrious Johnson, who took home the gold.

Demetrious Johnson has continued to demonstrate the reasons why he deserves an indisputable place in the pantheon of greatness in the field of martial arts.

At the World Master IBJJF Jiu-Jitsu Championship 2023, which took place at the Las Vegas Convention Center, the current ONE flyweight MMA world champion won the gold medal after dominating his first Brazilian jiu-jitsu competition and claiming victory with ease.

Johnson competed in the Masters 2 class, which is reserved for athletes who are at least 35 years old. Mighty Mouse, who entered the tournament as a brown belt in the featherweight class, went on to earn six victories (five by points, and one via armbar) during the course of the competition, which culminated in a 10-0 shutout in the championship match.

The American great is already considered to be one of the finest grapplers in mixed martial arts (MMA), but his recent championship win in the International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation (IBJJF) demonstrated that he can compete with the best in the submission grappling scene.

In his professional mixed martial arts career, Johnson has a record of 25 wins, and eight of those wins have come by means of submission. Mighty Wiz Bar, which he used to submit Ray Borg and keep the UFC flyweight world title in 2017, is undoubtedly the most famous submission victory of his career.

After making his ONE Championship debut in 2019, he has since achieved two more submission victories, one of which was in his mixed-rules battle against ONE flyweight Muay Thai world champion Rodtang Jitmuangnon at ONE X. Since then, he has gone on to record a total of four submission victories.

Johnson’s background in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is regarded in such high regard that ONE Flyweight Submission Grappling World Champion Mikey Musumeci, a man who is considered to be one of the best BJJ practitioners of all time, has shown interest in competing against “Mighty Mouse.”

The legacy of Johnson is still deeply rooted in mixed martial arts, despite the fact that his submission grappling is not to be taken lightly.

Johnson successfully defended his ONE flyweight MMA world championship against his fiercest foe Adriano Moraes in a trilogy match that took place at ONE Fight Night 10 in May of this past year in Denver.
