Mikey Musumeci disclosed to Jarred Brooks, his opponent for the defense of his ONE Flyweight Submission Grappling World Title, that his sister and another ONE star Tammi had literally trained with Brooks. The fight was scheduled for the night before.
It turned out that ‘The Monkey God’ had some history with the elder Musumeci, as they had previously trained together at American Top Team in Florida.
However, rather than gaining inside knowledge from Tammi about the reigning ONE strawweight world champion, ‘Darth Rigatoni’ earlier disclosed that his own sister was cheering against him given her friendship with Brooks. Brooks was the opponent that ‘Darth Rigatoni’ was going up against.
The five-time IBJJF world champion put on probably one of his best performances under the ONE banner when he submitted the ultra-tough Brooks with a superb triangle/armbar finish at ONE Fight Night 13 over the weekend. The fight took place over the weekend.
Musumeci addressed Tammi’s “allegiance” with his current rival in an interview after the event that was conducted by an organization located in Singapore. Musumeci argued that at the end of the day, they are all friends:
“I believe that she is pleased for the both of us. Due to the fact that they are buddies. Also, Jarred and I are good buddies. Therefore, I am also proud of him for accomplishing this goal. He did an outstanding job.
Nevertheless, the grappling genius, who is 27 years old, could not help but poke fun at his sister’s decision to compete against him:
“And absolutely. “F— her, she was voting for him,” he joked, referring to the other candidate.
Both Musumeci and Brooks maintained a friendly demeanor before and during their match; nevertheless, during the match, both competitors demonstrated an intense desire to win by submission.
The MMA world champion put forth a tremendous effort and made the battle intriguing, but he was unable to solve Musumeci’s insoluble riddle and ultimately lost the match. In the end, Brooks’ distinctive top pressure was no match for the Evolve MMA superstar’s sophisticated guard, and he joined the BJJ megastar’s long list of victims who were defeated by him. Brooks was one of the many people on that list.
