In a fortuitous change of circumstances, Smilla Sundell, the reigning ONE women’s strawweight Muay Thai world champion, is scheduled to defend her title against a new opponent this Fall. The fight will take place at the ONE Championship in Bangkok, Thailand.
It had been planned that the rising star, who is only 18 years old, would compete against the American-Filipino challenger Jackie Buntan, but regrettably, Buntan had to pull out of the fight due to “family matters.”
Although the two world champions have never faced each other in competition before, there is no doubt that tension will mount between them in the days running up to their match for the global championship.
Especially considering that Rodrigues has more than sufficient time to develop the ideal game plan in order to become a unique two-division world champion, whilst Sundell continues to exert effort in order to maintain her title.
Although both ladies have a lot to give, there can only be one victor in this competition. Fans have already begun making their choices on social media despite the fact that the news of their battle was just made this week on Instagram.
