Shamil Gasanov, a Russian featherweight fighter, defeated Oh Ho Taek, a South Korean fighter, in the main event of ONE Fight Night 18, which took place on January 12 in Thailand and was broadcast on Prime Video. Both fighters were awarded a unanimous decision victory. The fact that he did not perform well in the fashioning of the win makes it much more stunning.

‘The Cobra’ prevailed over ‘Spider’ in their featherweight mixed martial arts fight taking place at ONE’s first primetime show in the United States of America of the year. The Dagestani fighter, who is 28 years old, overpowered his opponent, who is 30 years old, throughout the entirety of their scheduled three-round competition at the Lumpinee Boxing Stadium. He did this by relying on his exceptional grappling skills.

Oh attempted to make headway in the battle with his striking, but he was unable, and he ended up losing for the second time in a row.

During the post-fight interview that took place inside the ring, Shamil Gasanov discussed the challenges that he faced while fighting Oh. He included the following:

My stomach was sick with food illness immediately before the battle, and I’m not feeling too good as a result. Immediately prior to the battle, I was not feeling well, and I am not feeling well at this moment.

Due to the fact that Gasanov had previously suffered a defeat at the hands of the American Garry Tonon, the victory over Oh served as a successful comeback for him. In addition to this, it strengthened his position as a contender in the featherweight mixed martial arts division, which is presently dominated by Tang Kai of China.

Those in North America who have a Prime Video subscription can watch the replay of ONE Fight Night 18: Gasanov vs. Oh on Prime Video whenever they want to watch it.

Shamil Gasanov looking to face off again against Garry Tonon

In light of the fact that he is currently back on the winning track, Shamil Gasanov is getting ready for his next challenge, which may include a potential rematch with American Garry Tonon, whom he defeated by submission in July of 2023.

This information was revealed by “The Cobra” in the days leading up to his most recent fight, which took place on January 12 at ONE Fight Night 18 on Prime Video. In the main event, he defeated South Korean Oh Ho Taek by way of a unanimous decision.

According to Gasanov, the defeat at the hands of Tonon by knee bar has left him with a sting that he is still working through. He wants to rid himself of this sting by avenging it in a rematch.

In an interview with ONE Championship, the athlete from the Peresvet Fight Team/Tiger Muay Thai shared:

Due to the fact that I have been healing from a knee injury, the past several months have been a difficult time for me. Despite this, I have been exerting a lot of effort to get back into training because my coach has strongly forbidden me from taking any time off until I have made up for the recent loss I recently suffered.

While he waits for his potential rematch with Tonon, Shamil Gasanov will be a spectator who is interested in watching ‘The Lion Killer’ compete against Martin Nguyen, a previous double ONE world champion, at ONE 165: Superlek vs. Takeru, which will take place on January 28 in Japan.
