Conor McGregor’s deleted tweets suggest that Islam Makhachev may have benefited from some sort of unfair advantage during their fight at UFC 294.

Conor McGregor, a superstar from Ireland, has shared his thoughts on the UFC 294 main event that took place between Islam Makhachev and Alexander Volkanovski. On October 21, in the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi, the two competitors squared off against one another. Makhachev was initially scheduled to fight Charles Oliveira, but ‘Do Bronx’ withdrew from the bout due to an injury. Makhachev then took on Oliveira. Volkanovski volunteered to take the Brazilian’s position in the main event despite the rather short notice.

In contrast to their first fight together at UFC 284, which took place over the course of five rounds, Volkanovski and Makhachev’s rematch was over in a hurry this time around. The Dagestani delivered an impressive head kick in the first round, which knocked Volkanovski down. He then continued to hurl a barrage of punches, which resulted in a technical knockout victory for the 31-year-old.

Expansion of a Tweet
Conor McGregor, however, believes that there may have been some unethical behavior at play during the main event of UFC 294. Following the head kick, ‘The Notorious’ alluded, in a tweet that has since been removed, that some of the follow-up punches landed by Makhachev might have been illegal hits to the back of Volkanovski’s head. Volkanovski was the recipient of the head kick.

“A challenging sport for referees. It is a challenging situation to try to halt that with a warning or a point deduction when [Volkanovski] was effectively eliminated already. However, there would unquestionably be valid reasons for doing so. It certainly would have been a tense situation. I wish I could have been there to witness it all unfold. Conor McGregor wrote that shots to the back of the head are not effective. [Credit goes to TalkSPORT]
