Cody Rhodes narrowly missed “finishing his story” at WrestleMania 39 Night Two as he was defeated by Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns. There were some exciting moments during the epic 30-plus minute main event battle. The American Nightmare almost succeeded in ousting the Tribal Chief at several points during the game. However, Paul Heyman and Solo Sikoa intervened, preventing that from happening. They made sure Roman Reigns kept his championship and continued to reign as the undisputed WWE Universal Champion.

Cody Rhodes appeared utterly devastated following his heartbreaking defeat and remained in the arena for some time. He was captured several times by WWE cameras in close-up. He then spent some time pacing around the arena before making a long trip through the ramp to the backstage area. Below are pictures and a footage of Cody following his loss at WrestleMania 39.

Triple H on Cody Rhodes losing at WrestleMania 39

The fact that Reigns defeated Cody tonight at WrestleMania 39 has angered and irritated a significant portion of the audience. They thought that now would be the ideal moment and chance for someone to finally depose The Tribal Chief. WWE Chief Content Officer Triple H commented on Cody Rhodes’ defeat during the post-WrestleMania news conference as follows:

Perhaps a shocking result for a large number of individuals. In response to that, I’ll just state that I find it fascinating when people ask, “How can that happen?” or “How can they do that at that time?” This story almost flawlessly explains it. “I have to wrap this up,” you say. The tale never ends in the WWE. The narrative resumes on Raw tomorrow night. A new chapter of the narrative is required. We’ve just reached the chapter’s conclusion. The narrative goes on, and that’s when I start to find this intriguing. The fact that the narrative never ends is what makes our industry so amazing, according to Triple H. (source: Fightful)

The narrative will resume after WrestleMania 39 on Monday Night RAW, as HHH previously stated. Given how the contest ended, it appears probable that Cody and Roman will carry on their conflict after WrestleMania.
