Mikey Musumeci, the reigning world champion in submission grappling at the flyweight division for ONE, entered ONE Fight Night 13 with one goal in mind.
The champion went into his third title defense against Jarred Brooks looking for a submission victory, and he ended up getting exactly what he was going for. ‘Darth Rigatoni’ continues to execute, this time obtaining a triangle armbar as he bears the weight of symbolizing submission grappling.
This particular championship defense carried with it another source of motivation, in addition to his desire to rack up another submission victory while competing under the ONE Championship banner.
Musumeci was given the chance to box for the very first time inside the illustrious Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand, over the past weekend. The champion was able to demonstrate the sport to which he has devoted his entire life at one of the most illustrious venues in the world, which allowed him to not just represent grappling for all of the people from across the world who were tuning in.
Mikey Musumeci discussed his experience participating at Lumpinee and what it meant to him in the post-fight interviews that he gave to ONE Championship after the event:
“Do you know how fantastic it is that I feel? To begin, it is a tremendous privilege to be able to compete for the very first time in such an illustrious venue as this, which is the world-famous Lumpinee Stadium.
Musumeci continues to establish himself as one of the very best fighters in the world after successfully defending his championship for a second time. Submission grappling is one of the disciplines in which he competes. After winning two matches in a row through submission, the current champion is more motivated than ever to contribute to the expansion of the sport by setting an example for others to follow.
