John Lineker made his comeback to competition during the past weekend with the intention of proving himself after suffering a defeat the previous time around.
The Brazilian fighter had a rematch at the historic Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand, where he had previously been defeated at ONE Fight Night 7. This time, he was determined to get his revenge.
The former champion was unsuccessful in his attempt to reclaim his championship in February, despite the fact that his performance against Fabricio Andrade in their rematch was significantly more impressive than the account he delivered in their first meeting.
Lineker was aware that the fight with Kim Jae Woong, which was set to take place on August 4, was about more than just piling up another victory on his record. “Hands of Stone” needed to demonstrate in this fight that he has not been overtaken at the top of the division and that he is still a dangerous opponent for anyone competing in the division.
Lineker did precisely that, making a statement under the ONE Championship banner at the very last moment by snatching triumph from the jaws of prospective defeat with a third-round technical knockout to win the fight.
The former bantamweight champion demonstrated that he still possesses the qualities that made him a world champion in the first place, despite the fact that he had some difficulty during some portions of the fight.
In addition to his personal performance, John Lineker discussed his opponent Kim Jae Woong in the post-match interviews he gave. He claimed that Kim Jae Woong supplied him with the ideal dancing partner, allowing them to put on a show for the spectators in Lumpinee:
“In all honesty, he exhibited courtesy. I mean, this is what we do; we’re fighting each other, but I don’t have any grudges against either of you. I appreciate him even more than I did in the past.”
Viewers in North America who have an active membership to Amazon Prime Video will be able to access the whole ONE Fight Night 13 card after it has already taken place.
