Jarred “The Monkey God” Brooks, the current holder of the ONE strawweight world championship, is undeniably a self-assured man. Some people could consider him to be on the verge of being arrogant and cocky. However, if you ask “Darth Rigatoni” Mikey Musumeci, who holds the uncontested title of ONE Flyweight Submission Grappling World Champion, Brooks is actually a pretty decent “dude.”
This week, Musumeci will face Brooks in the co-main event of ONE Fight Night 13: Allazov vs. Grigorian, which will be streamed live on Prime Video. At stake is Musumeci’s world title in the flyweight submission grappling division of ONE. On Friday, August 4, the event will be telecast live from the illustrious Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.
In a recent interview with ONE Championship, Musumeci expressed his appreciation for the personality of Brooks and stated that he thinks the American to be hilarious.
This is what the Italian-American grappling superstar, who is 27 years old, had to say:
“He’s not an a-hole at all. He is a decent human being. You should know that I enjoy humor such as this. This is similar to when all of your pals are joking about with one another in the locker room at the gym.
This is a refreshing departure from the typical pre-fight conversation that Jarred Brooks engages in, which typically consists of a lot of boasting and trash talking. But ‘Darth Rigatoni’ and ‘The Monkey God’ have been exceedingly civil toward one another, especially during fight week in Bangkok where they are both competing.
The fight between Musumeci and Brooks sets black belt against black belt. In what looks to be an intriguing battle of grappling styles, jiu-jitsu from Brazil will go up against wrestling from the United States of America.
Who leaves the stadium with the ONE Flyweight Submission Grappling World Championship slung over their shoulder? We won’t have to keep waiting very long to get an answer.
Fans in the United States and Canada have the opportunity to watch ONE Fight Night 13: Allazov vs. Grigorian live and for free on Amazon Prime Video. This event will take place in New York City.
