When he faces the Chinese powerhouse Hu Yong on October 6 at ONE Fight Night 15, the Filipino star Danny Kingad takes another step toward regaining his place among the contenders for the world title.
Following his totally convincing victory over the Indonesian knockout machine Eko Roni Saputra at ONE Fight Night 7, Kingad will now compete in his second bout of the year.
ABS-CBN News was the first to report on the new information.
The former contender for the ONE flyweight world title was quoted in the article as saying that a victory over Hu would put him in a better position to challenge Demetrious Johnson for the ONE flyweight world championship.
According to Kingad:
“The objective is to get back into contention for the world title.” I am well aware that if I can pull off one more victory, it will put me in a strong position to compete for the championship.
He continued:
“I can hardly wait. I am well aware that Hu Yong is an extremely talented and risky combatant; hence, I am making every effort to get ready for both him and whatever he intends to accomplish.
With an incredible record of 11-3, Kingad has established himself as one of the most accomplished flyweights in the history of ONE Championship. The third-ranked flyweight contender has some of the most memorable fights in the promotion, including fights against Johnson and former divisional king Adriano Moraes. Johnson was one of his opponents. Moraes was one of his opponents.
At ONE: Legends of the World in November 2017, the 27-year-old fighter got his first opportunity to win the gold as he competed against the reigning world champion in the flyweight division, Adriano Moraes.
Hu, on the other hand, currently holds a record of 6-1 in the ONE Championship and is coming off of a victory by split decision over Woo Sung Hoon at ONE Fight Night 11 in June of this past year. His most impressive victory, however, came at ONE 164, when he knocked out Geje Eustaquio, a former world champion in the flyweight division of ONE.
