Mikey Musumeci, the reigning world champion in the flyweight division of submission grappling for ONE Championship, attributes a big portion of his success within the squared circle to the fact that he has always shown his opponents the respect they deserve.
At ONE Fight Night 15 on Prime Video, “Darth Rigatoni” turned in yet another performance that was worthy of being featured in a highlight reel. Just past the three-minute mark of their openweight superfight, “Darth Rigatoni” submitted Japanese mixed martial arts legend Shinya Aoki with a heel hook.
Mikey Musumeci has won his last six bouts in a row, and he just gave an interview in which he discussed the reasons behind his incredible run of success since signing with ONE Championship a year ago:
Musumeci stated this during the post-fight press conference. “So when I doubt myself and you don’t feel well, because we’re humans, we always doubt ourselves,” Musumeci explained. “Everyone still believes that the best people, in every match they go in and they’re like ‘I’m the best,'” the commentator said. Could it be that foolish individuals behave in such a way? Because I am quite logical, I am aware that I am capable of losing any match. Therefore, I have respect for all of my competitors.
Please see the interview that follows:
Musumeci’s target list now includes some very remarkable talent, like as former IBJJF and Sambo world champions, not to mention Jarred Brooks, the current king of the strawweight division in ONE MMA. During the seventh minute of their highly interesting matchup in August, ‘Darth Rigatoni’ forced ‘The Monkey God’ to tap.
Mikey Musumeci has won his last three fights through submission, and with a victory over Shinya Aoki now under his belt, he has appeared to be nearly unbeatable in recent bouts. Who would you like to see the native of New Jersey face off against when he makes his return to the Circle? Considering that he is willing to compete against whomever the promotion puts in front of him, who would you pick?
