Leon Edwards, the current UFC welterweight champion, has stated that he most likely won’t compete in UFC London. In his trilogy fight against Kamaru Usman at UFC 286 in London in March of this year, “Rocky” was last seen in action. By successfully defending his welterweight title, Edwards cemented his position as the greatest in the division. His upcoming bout is the subject of numerous rumours. Fascinatingly, there were rumours that he would make a comeback as early as July to headline the UFC’s upcoming event in London. ‘Rocky’, however, put an end to those rumours in a Sky Sports interview.
Leon Edwards declared that he won’t compete at the UFC’s July event in London unless he is given “stupid money”
“No, the bag always talks until it arrives with some foolish money. I would actually have to report to training camp the next week unless the silly money materialises. A month ago, I fought. I do not believe that March through July makes sense.”I guess I’ve fought three times in the past year or so. I’d love to fight now, closer to the end of the year. The Abu Dhabi card is fantastic. I feel that Abu Dhabi would be ideal because I would have time to recover from my ailments and get back into it.
Leon Edwards’ next fight: Who will ‘Rocky’ fight next?
The next title shot will go to Colby Covington, UFC president Dana White made plain after Edwards defeated Kamaru Usman at UFC 286. Covington has only competed four times since 2019 and was last seen inside the octagon versus Jorge Masvidal over a year ago.
A lot of resentment has been generated by the same because White appears to have disregarded deserving competitors like Belal Muhammad, who is awaiting his first title chance.
On the other hand, Dana White appears to think Colby Covington deserves a third title opportunity since 2019 despite being somewhat inactive. During the UFC 287 pre-fight news conference, White discussed this and said:
Whether you liked Colby Covington or not, the man arrived in London and shed some pounds. He performed the duties assigned to him, earning himself a duel with Leon.
