Jarred Brooks gives his opinion on the potential next challenger for the strawweight world title.

Published:

Jarred Brooks, the current holder of the ONE strawweight world title, believes that the high-stakes fight that will take place at ONE Fight Night 11 between Jeremy Miado and Mansur Malachiev could eventually determine who he will fight to defend his title next.

In December, ‘The Monkey God’ became the new strawweight champion after defeating Joshua Pacio, a former holder of the world belt, with a convincing and unanimous decision victory. Brooks has not yet defended his gold, but he believes that ONE Fight Night 11 might pave the way for a new contender. Streaking star Jeremy Miado will attempt to finish an opponent for the fifth time in a row inside the ring. Brooks has not yet defended his gold. Mansur Malachiev, a well-rounded Russian fighter riding the momentum of 10-straight wins, eight of which were won by way of finish, is the only thing that stands in his path as an unbeaten newcomer.

Jarred Brooks mentioned to ONE Championship that if Malachiev exits the iconic Lumpinee Boxing Stadium with a win, he may immediately find himself in the top five and paired up with another possible challenger. Brooks made this statement after Malachiev’s bout at the Lumpinee Boxing Stadium.

“Everything depends on whether or whether Mansur [Malachiev] wins [Jeremy] Miado, because that determines who gets into the top five. I believe that [Keito] Yamakita will most likely fight the winner of that, and then [that will determine who ONE] wants to put up against me.

Keito Yamakita, another rising star in the world of mixed martial arts, shares Mansur Malachiev’s perfect record in the sport. He made his debut with the organization in March at ONE Fight Night 8, when he defeated Alex Silva through unanimous decision to gain the victory. Malachiev and Yamakita might have to face each other in a head-to-head match in order to have a chance at Jarred Brooks’ brand new belt if all goes according to Jarred Brooks’ plan.

But first, Malachiev will have to defeat Jeremy Miado, a fan favorite from the Philippines who has won 12 professional fights and has a perfect finish rate inside the circle.

On June 9, subscribers in North America to Amazon Prime Video will be able to watch ONE Fight Night 11 live and for free during primetime in the United States.
