In Singapore, former lightweight champion Eduard Folayang faces off against an old rival in Amir Khan.

Published:

At ONE Fight Night 14, former ONE lightweight world champion Eduard Folayang will begin the next chapter of his tenure in the ONE Championship when he squares up against a fighter who is already well-known to him.

In what will be the Filipino legend’s record 25th appearance inside the Circle, the fight will take place on September 29 at Singapore Indoor Stadium against Amir Khan.

ABS-CBN News was the first to report on the new information.

In an interview with the journal, Folayang stated that he is looking forward to his comeback and that he is hoping that his fight against the Singaporean star would provide him with additional motivation for a potential run at the world title.

According to Folayang:

“I can’t even begin to describe the level of excitement that’s coursing through me as I look forward to the rematch against Amir Khan on September 30 (Singapore time),” he said. “It’s beyond anything I’ve ever experienced.” This fight signifies so much more than just a fight in the Circle; it’s a shot at redemption, a golden opportunity to rewrite my tale, and a chance to launch a new, adventurous chapter in my career. “This fight represents so much more than just a fight in the Circle.”

He continued:

“The journey to get to this point has been arduous, but it’s precisely because of the challenges that I’ve faced that I’ve found the fortitude to keep going. I am prepared to exhibit the fruition of my labor and to make the most of this opportunity to demonstrate that failures are merely the foundations upon which comebacks are built.
In all of Folayang’s previous appearances in the ONE Championship, this will be the very first time that he does not represent Team Lakay.

At the beginning of this year, Folayang and a number of other members of the Team Lakay stable made the decision to quit the well-known gym in the Philippines.

Since then, Folayang has established Lions Nation MMA, and his rematch with Khan will mark the promotional debut of the newly formed team in ONE Championship.

The first time Khan and Folayang crossed paths was in November 2018 in Manila at the ONE: Conquest of Champions event. Folayang defeated Khan by way of unanimous decision, which allowed him to win the ONE lightweight world title for the second time in his career. Folayang won the fight by putting on a striking clinic.
