Ilya Freymanov, a fighter from Russia, is confident that he would be able to defeat Tang Kai, the current featherweight MMA world champion, in a bout between the two of them in the future, provided that he does not go too far ahead of himself.
At ONE Fight Night 15 on Prime Video on October 6 in Bangkok, the Kuznya Fight Club affiliate, who is 27 years old, will compete against the reigning world champion of the featherweight class, Thanh Le, in an attempt to win the interim ONE featherweight world title.
Ilya Freymanov has revealed that he has his sights set on Tang Kai for a potential clash in the future, but he is currently concentrating on the next title bout that he has scheduled for himself.
During an interview with ONE Championship, he provided his perspective on the Chinese world champion while also emphasizing how he will have the upper hand in any confrontation between the two of them in the future. In his words:
“Tang Kai is a distinctive striker, but when he faces another good striker, as we saw in his most recent fight, he tries to take the fight to the ground and work from there.” In general, his style consists of maintaining a distance between himself and his opponent, rapidly switching between stances, and attacking from a variety of angles. He attempts to quickly close the gap between them by utilizing his speed and timing in order to successfully land his blows. This is typical of him. I believe that I have improved in all areas, including aerobic, standing-up work, and wrestling. I believe that I am a better striker and a better wrestler than he is.
Ilya Freymanov will face Tang Kai in a unification match once Tang Kai has recovered from the knee injury he suffered at ONE Fight Night 15. This fight will take place after Ilya Freymanov has won at ONE Fight Night 15.
The man who hails from Krasnodar has been victorious in his last two bouts, the most recent of which was a first-round submission victory achieved in June against Shinechagtga Zoltsetseg of Mongolia. His next bout is scheduled to take place soon.
Thanh Le, for his part, is looking to make amends for losing the ONE featherweight gold to Tang Kai in his most recent battle, which took place in August 2022 and was decided by unanimous decision.
