When Jake Paul announced his switch to mixed martial arts and signed a multi-fight contract with the Professional Fighters League, many people were shocked (PFL). Although “The Problem Child” has not yet competed in MMA, he has a wide range of possible rivals.
Chuck Liddell, a former UFC light heavyweight champion who is now retired, was questioned by Inside Fighting about a potential MMA showdown with Paul. Although ‘The Iceman’ appeared sympathetic to the proposal, he did not believe Paul would benefit from it:
“Now that I’m in MMA, everyone wants to fight me. Come on, he won’t agree to an MMA match with me. He has no desire to contend with me… I’m a 53-year-old retiree. But once more, he has no chance. He would undoubtedly sign a contract. Sure, if he provided enough cash.
Several former MMA champions have already been defeated by Jake Paul. He has knockout victories over Tyron Woodley, a former UFC welterweight champion, and Ben Askren, a former ONE and Bellator champion. Most recently, the controversial YouTuber-turned-boxer won a decision victory over UFC icon Anderson Silva.
It remains to be seen if the former Disney star can repeat his success in the ring after going 6-0 as a professional boxer.
Jake Paul weighs in on Francis Ngannou being released by the UFC
There is no longer a Francis Ngannou with the UFC. Ngannou is now out of contract and a free agent after unsuccessful contract talks with the company. It is thought that the UFC forbade Ngannou from participating in other combat sports while he was still under contract, despite the fact that money was not a problem.
Bellator, BKFC, and PFL have already made offers to “The Predator.” Jake Paul recently shared his perspective on Ngannou’s departure, emphasising that the Cameroonian fighter’s decision to become a free agent was voluntary.
Paul claimed on Twitter that the 36-year-old is still the “baddest man on the earth” everywhere he competes, writing:
Francis Ngannou is the world’s baddest man and a free agent because he wanted to be. He is and will be the MMA heavyweight champion. They’re not pleased about it. However, they must accept it as reality. They are forced to deal with that every day.
The vacant UFC heavyweight title will be decided in the main event of UFC 285 on March 5 between Ciryl Gane and Jon Jones, it was later confirmed.
