Sean O’Malley was present at UFC 298 to witness Merab Dvalishvili’s victory over Henry Cejudo, which involved a potential bantamweight title eliminator. Dvalishvili won the fight by way of a unanimous decision. After the fight, ‘Suga’ disclosed that he had learned that the opponent had sustained an injury. This was in response to the previous fighter’s request for a title opportunity.

The bantamweight champion made the following statement when speaking to Megan Olivi of ESPN:

It is more interesting to see fights live as opposed to viewing them on television. I would like to view it again on the television so that I may provide a complete input. It was satisfactory. A number of speculations circulated that Henry was suffering from some injuries before to the battle. Although he appeared to be a little winded, Merab appeared to be in decent shape. There was a decent little brawl between a couple of young guys.
O’Malley made the following statement in response to Dvalishvili’s callout:

“One month from now, UFC 299,” Everything seems to be going pretty well. Before I start saying things like, “Oh, I might fight him, I might fight this guy,” I have to make it through the “Chito” that [Marlon] was talking about.
In the following video, beginning at the 0:09 mark, Sean O’Malley provides his thoughts on the matchup between Merab Dvalishvili and Henry Cejudo:

O’Malley will defend his bantamweight title for the first time against Marlon “Chito” Vera in the main event at UFC 299, which will take place the following month. Cejudo has hinted that he might be retiring in the near future, while Dvalishvili has staked his claim to the next opportunity to compete for the bantamweight title.

Merab Dvalishvili shares why he would rather face Sean O’Malley than Marlon ‘Chito’ Vera

Dana White said that Merab Dvalishvili will compete against the victor of the bantamweight title fight between Sean O’Malley and Marlon ‘Chito’ Vera, which will take place at UFC 299 the following month. This announcement came after Dvalishvili’s decisive victory over Henry Cejudo. According to ‘The Machine,’ he has expressed his desire for ‘Suga’ to be able to keep the title.

In his post-fight press conference at UFC 298, the bantamweight who is ranked second in the world made the following statement:

The reason I want to fight O’Malley is because I have been calling him out beginning in 2018, and he is now the champion. If he is able to keep the belt, then I will be able to fight him. I would want to steal his belt, and I noticed that he was wearing a great jacket today, a white jacket, therefore I would like to have his white jacket.

It is not known who will be his opponent, despite the fact that he is the next person in line for a title opportunity. When O’Malley fights Vera the following month, he will attempt to keep his belt while also seeking revenge for the one and only defeat he has had throughout his mixed martial arts career.
