Following the defeat he suffered at the hands of Dricus du Plessis, Sean Strickland has issued a statement.

As part of his first championship defense, Strickland faced off against du Plessis at UFC 297, which took place Friday night. Prior to the fight, there was a lot of talk about how ‘Tarzan’ would have the upper hand if the fight continued into later rounds; however, it did not appear that this would be the case.

In spite of the fact that he was clearly defeated in the first round, Du Plessis was able to make apologies and inflict a significant amount of damage on Strickland as the fight went. He put up an outstanding display. Taking everything into consideration, the battle ended up being quite close, and the South African emerged victorious by way of a split decision.

Immediately after the battle, Strickland went on X and stated that he had a difficult time seeing since he had been hit in the head during the entire fight. It was him who said:

“Well, that headbutt really made it difficult to see, but I thought we were able to get the job done,” the speaker said. “Well, fu*k haha… man.” Everything, including the blood!!! The next one is up next!!! To everyone who has shown their support, I am grateful!!!!!

Dana White believes Sean Strickland won the fight against Dricus du Plessis

Following the victory of Dricus du Plessis against Sean Strickland via split decision, a great deal of discussion has taken place over the outcome of the fight. There are those who believe that du Plessis did not do enough to win the fight, while there are others, including Dana White, the CEO of the UFC, who believe that Strickland was victorious.

White revealed that he had the fight tied at 2-2 going into the final round while he was speaking about it during the press conference. It was him who said:

At the beginning of the last round, I had the score at 2-2, and I believed that Strickland would emerge victorious. To put it another way, the guys who were seated at the same table had the opposite opinion. I must say that it was a really close contest. Over the course of the first two rounds, I felt Strickland looked fantastic. What I mean is that the jab was just stunning. This kind of jab is not seen in mixed martial arts. The jabs were successful in accomplishing their intended purpose. Both of his eyes, which were swelled shut, were those of Du Plessis.
