Everything we know about the event that is set to mark Conor McGregor’s return to the Ultimate Fighting Championship on June 29

Published:

Fans have already begun marking their calendars for June 29, 2024, despite the fact that UFC 300 is only a few months away. Conor McGregor is the reason for this.

The reason for this is that the date not only coincides with the United States Fighting Championship’s International Fight Week, but it also has the potential to be the return date of the previous champion. Recently, the Irishman hinted on social media that he intends to compete against Michael Chandler at 185 pounds throughout the summer:

I wish each and every one of you a joyous new year, ladies and gentlemen. I would like to make the announcement that I, Conor McGregor, also known as “The Notorious,” will be returning. For the occasion of International Fight Week, which will take place in Las Vegas, Nevada, on June 29th, the greatest comeback in the history of everything will take place. Michael Chandler, the opponent, and Mr. Chandler, who weighs 185 pounds, are the weight groups.

There has been no confirmation from the mixed martial arts company; but, if the Irishman is not going to be competing at UFC 300 in April, then the event that could take place on June 29 makes perfect sense.

Generally speaking, International Fight Week is always held in Las Vegas, and it is widely regarded by fans as one of the most important fight cards that takes place during the year. If what McGregor has said is accurate, then fans can anticipate that the event will be a numbered pay-per-view and will have a card that is comparable to the one that will take place in April, with “Notorious” serving as the main attraction.

Former UFC title challenger breaks down Conor McGregor vs. Michael Chandler

Anthony Smith, a light heavyweight fighter in the Ultimate Fighting Championship, spoke up on the possibility of a fight between Conor McGregor and Michael Chandler.

With the exception of his fight against Dustin Poirier in the 2021 trilogy, McGregor has not competed inside of a cage since he sustained an unexpected leg break. It has been over three years since he has been able to return to action due to the injury, which necessitated surgery.

‘Lionheart’ has provided his perspective on what a middleweight fight between Chandler and McGregor may entail, taking into consideration that the 35-year-old fighter is anticipated to return and compete at the larger weight class of 185 pounds:

In addition to that, his footwork is not going to feel the same. It is going to be a little bit more sluggish on his part, and he is going to have to be because he is carrying the additional weight that he is not used to carrying, so it is also a matter of technique.
Further, Smith stated:

“The striking techniques that he employs, the manner in which he engages in combat, and the footwork that he employs in combat… In a tournament that was thirty pounds heavier, he has not yet accomplished it at combat speed. He has never made such a move. Even if he is able to persuade himself that it does not, it is going to be different and it is going to feel different when he is in there.
