Marcus ‘Buchecha’ Almeida has achieved a stage in his career that few people can even think of reaching. He has a long list of accomplishments and awards that he has earned throughout the course of his career.
The Brazilian, who at the time was the most decorated submission grappler in the history of the sport, reached a turning point in his professional life. Instead of simply fighting and winning trophies for the sake of being active, he needed to find a new challenge because he was aware that his legacy would be preserved regardless of what he did.
After that, he shifted his focus to mixed martial arts (MMA), a discipline in which he has now achieved four victories in a row while competing under the banner of ONE Championship.
On August 4, he will compete in ONE Fight Night 13 in an attempt to win his fifth title. His opponent will be ‘Reug Reug’ Oumar Kane, and the event will take place at the legendary Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand. In a recent interview for the JAXXON PODCAST, ‘Buchecha’ discussed his choice to switch careers from boxing to mixed martial arts (MMA) as well as the mentality that drove him to make this move.
Almeida has been very methodical about each stage of his career, which has been paying off very well for him inside the circle. He has revealed that he always had ambitions to compete in the sport, at the very least as a one off experience.
“So, I’ve always kind of been thinking about this in the back of my mind. I wanna see. I wanna try. Even if I decide not to pursue a career in mixed martial arts (MMA), I still want to make it a point to compete in at least one bout inside of a cage.
