Dooho Choi ready to make a statement after three-year UFC absence

Dooho Choi has been absent from the sport for more than three years; his most recent bout was in December of last year. This weekend, he will make his long-awaited comeback to the cage.

While competing against Cub Swanson at UFC 206, “The Korean Superboy” provided one half of the bout of the year for 2016. Despite losing, the stand-up specialist showed heart and courage as the two featherweights traded powerful blows throughout the contest’s three rounds.

Dooho Choi couldn’t contain his excitement as he spoke about the tournament on February 4 and insisted that he couldn’t wait to show that he belonged at the top of the game.

“I haven’t competed in a long, so I’ve been anticipating it and am eager to show myself on Saturday night. I have excellent offensive and striking skills, but my defence was lacking. Consequently, I’ve made significant progress in my defence over the break. I’ve been planning my strategy and creating a game plan in an effort to finish the fight without passing out. I’ll go in there and try to dominate; I’ll use my game plan to control the battle, and I’ll put up a commanding display. I’m going to say something.”

Kyle Nelson, an experienced 18-fight MMA fighter from Canada who can outwork his opponents no matter where the scrap takes place, will welcome Choi back to the UFC.

Dooho Choi’s career in the UFC thus far

The 31-year-old, who came into the octagon with a record of 11-1, got right to work with an 18-second knockout of Juan Manuel Puig in his promotional debut against the then-promising submission specialist.
Dooho Choi won his next two fights by knockout, defeating Thiago Tavares and Sam Sicilia in the opening round of their respective contests. He had gone 0-3 since his stunning UFC debut, making these contests the most recent victories of his career.

The Asian’s six-bout career with the organisation was concluded by the aforementioned fight with Cub Swanson and consecutive TKO losses to Jeremy Stephens and Charles Jourdain.
