As a result of Amir Albazi’s forced withdrawal from the UFC Mexico City event, Brandon Moreno is scheduled to rematch his old opponent.

After the Iraqi fighter was forced to withdraw from the fight due to an injury, Brandon Moreno recently disclosed that his battle against Amir Albazi, which was scheduled to take place at the UFC Mexico City event on February 24th, will no longer take place. A rematch with Brandon Royval is scheduled to take place in the main event of the card, which will feature the former two-time flyweight champion.

The revelation was confirmed by Moreno during an interview with Carlos Contreras Legaspi, who also said that he is prepared to fight Royval next. This comes just over two months after Moreno challenged Alexandre Pantoja for the title at UFC 296, which took place in 2015. As Moreno put it:

It’s a different adversary,” she said. I have no idea what transpired with Amir Albazi, but he is no longer participating in the fight. For this reason, I am going to engage in combat with Brandon Royval… “All I want is the chance to wrestle for the championship once more,” she said.

A previous encounter between Moreno and Royval took place at UFC 255, which took place in November of 2020. Royval was knocked out in the first round by “The Assassin Baby,” who won the fight. During their most recent bout for the title, both fighters competed against Pantoja. Moreno was defeated by Pantoja via split decision, while Royval was defeated by Pantoja via unanimous decision.

Following the widespread dissemination of social media claims that Albazi had withdrawn from the conflict, the Iraqi warrior issued a statement on X in which he provided an explanation for his departure. UFC doctors have advised ‘The Prince’ to refrain from competing in the upcoming fight, as it appears that he is suffering from a significant neck injury that requires surgery. As he wrote:

On the 24th of February, I decided to withdraw from the fight against Moreno. Since the beginning of this month, I have been battling with a severe injury to my neck. Immediately following the completion of these scans, the UFC physicians made the decision to remove me from the fight. Please accept my sincere apologies to the fans and the @UFC. In the name of Allah, I will return.
