According to the most recent information, the medical staff will decide whether or not Paulo Costa will be allowed to compete at UFC 294.

Published:

At UFC 294, Paulo Costa is scheduled to meet Khamzat Chimaev, marking his return to the octagon after an absence of more than a year. The fight will take place in Las Vegas. A recent tweet from the sixth-ranked middleweight fighter in the world disclosed that he had surgery on his elbow approximately three weeks ago.

“In what ways are you strong? You will never truly know anything unless you are put through the trials and tribulations of real life. I had surgery three weeks ago, and the surgeon removed 10 seams. However, I am aware of how resilient I am and continually work to improve and prevail over my weaknesses. I continue to do whatever I normally do, including sparring and everything else. It has no effect on me. I am extremely fortunate that God has provided me with such wonderful circumstances and that I am surrounded by such wonderful people.

Meanwhile, Brett Okamoto of ESPN offered an update, indicating that ‘Borrachinha’ did not consider bailing out of the bout, tweeting:

“Paulo Costa (@BorrachinhaMMA), who competes in mixed martial arts, needed surgery for an infected bursa on his elbow. He assured me that he had not entertained the idea of withdrawing. “I can beat [@KChimaev] 99 times out of 100, the only thing stopping me is the doctors not allowing me to.” I’m looking for that fight.

Costa is undeterred in his goal to compete against Chimaev, despite the fact that he underwent surgery only five weeks before the contest. However, it is yet unknown whether the former middleweight title challenger will be given the green light by the medical staff to compete in the octagon.

Paulo Costa claims that Khamzat Chimaev will do nothing against him

The fight between Paulo Costa and Khamzat Chimaev is scheduled to take place as the co-main event of UFC 294, and it has the potential to serve as an elimination contest for the middleweight title. The middleweight fighter currently rated sixth in the world recently stated that his opponent will not do anything to him. In an interview with Ariel Helwani of The MMA Hour, ‘Borrachinha’ stated:

“I have everything at my disposal to take care of this motherf**ker. He reminds me of a professional wrestler. He is irrelevant to me in any way. He has a large head, yet his arms and body are very long. Nothing will be done to harm me by him. I will successfully repel his first attempt to take me down, and then I will knock him out. Now, I really want to have this battle. That is the reason why I am still participating in this war. I had surgery, yet it doesn’t bother me at all… The only way to avoid conflict with him is through medical professionals… I came here to battle him, and I have no doubt in my mind that I will come out on top.

After getting into an argument at the UFC Performance Institute in September of last year, Costa and Chimaev have been verbally sparring with one another for well over a year. It is currently unknown if ‘Borz’ will be given a replacement opponent in the event that the sixth-ranked middleweight does not receive a medical clearance.
