Zhang Peimian hopes to become China’s youngest world champion

China’s Zhang Peimian hopes to capitalise on his most recent triumph to launch yet another bid for the ONE Championship championship.

On March 24 in Singapore, at ONE Fight Night 8 on Prime Video, the 19-year-old celebrity defeated Russia’s Torepchi Dongak by unanimous decision in their featured strawweight kickboxing match.Throughout their fight, Zhang was a challenge for Dongak, who was making his ONE Championship debut, pummeling the latter with powerful punches, leg kicks, and knees.

Even while Dongak had his moments, none were particularly big or beyond Zhang’s control. The “Fighting Rooster” was appropriately rewarded with a unanimous decision victory and a $50,000 performance bonus from ONE Championship CEO Chatri Sityodtong after the dust settled from the fight.

After winning, Zhang Peimian declared that after losing to Canadian Jonathan Di Bella in the fight for the ONE strawweight kickboxing world championship in October, he is more driven than ever to try again.

His efforts are in accordance with his dual objectives of making China’s kickboxing scene more well-known and becoming his nation’s youngest global champion, he claimed:

“If I won the belt, it would be the country of China’s first ONE kickboxing belt. I shall therefore win it for China and become the country’s youngest global champion.
