Themba Gorimbo of the UFC explains why he can’t pay his bills and why he turned to Colby Covington for assistance.

The reason why UFC welterweight Themba Gorimbo can’t pay his bills has been revealed. The 32-year-old disclosed in a recent interview with MMA Mania that he owns a gym in South Africa, which is the reason why he is frequently left with little money. The interview was conducted by MMA Mania. As a consequence of this, he was forced to seek assistance from his fellow player Colby Covington when he relocated to Miami.

Gorimbo has made it known that he welcomes everyone, but particularly younger athletes and amateur fighters, to come to the gym and train for free. As a consequence of this, the gym does not constitute a reliable source of income. Instead, he is required to pay for the operation out of his own personal funds. He stated to MMA Mania that:

“I am the owner of a fitness center in South Africa. The fact that I am most likely penniless is not due to my irresponsible handling of financial matters. It’s because running this gym doesn’t bring in any profit for me. This gym is like a community center for children in Africa, and I encourage them to come here and train for free.
Gorimbo added:

“People don’t know, so they’ll think things like, oh, he must not have made the most of his financial opportunities. Yes, I do make money; yet, at the end of the day, I have a fitness center in South Africa that does not generate any income for me. Everybody is simply taking, taking, taking, I’m putting, putting, putting, you know?”

Themba Gorimbo claims Colby Covington is a “great man”

In his most recent bout, which took place at UFC Fight Night: Dern vs. Hill, Themba Gorimbo faced off against Takashi Sato. After he had his first victory, the 32-year-old complimented his fellow partner Colby Covington on his performance.

The UFC welterweight fighter recently moved gyms and is now training at MMA Masters in Miami, Florida, under the tutelage of Cody Covington. During the post-fight press conference, Gorimbo shared the following comments regarding the assistance that he has received from ‘Chaos’:

“Colby Covington, he is just an outstanding individual, man. Colby Covington, you know that you bring me food at the gym on occasion. Sometimes you bring it to me. And individuals express their opinions towards him in whatever way they see fit. But, yeah, that guy is one hell of a good man. To have a passing familiarity with him, you must first know him. Just like me, you need to know me quite well before you can say that you kind of know me. When everything is said and done, it’s just business. And I found a place that feels like home, and I’m working my way through the ranks of the gym that I now have… And I feel like I’ve finally found some peace of mind here in Miami.”
