At the IBJJF Masters Worlds that took place a week ago, Demetrious Johnson demonstrated one thing: that he is capable of achieving whatever that he sets his sights and his mind on.
After successfully defending his world championship against Adriano Moraes at ONE Fight Night 10, “Mighty Mouse” decided to try his hand at a grappling competition and signed up for the event, which took place inside the Las Vegas Convention Center from August 31 to September 2.
Even though he was pitted against some of the strongest competitors among the ranks of the 38-man bracket, the reigning ONE flyweight MMA world champion still managed to go all the way to the end of his first tournament and finish with a gold medal. This accomplishment beyond even his wildest aspirations.
Demetrious Johnson told FloGrappling the following about his performance, which earned him a medal:
“You know, that worked out much better than I could have hoped for. tournament including 38 men, with elimination down to a single player. There is no room for error under any circumstances.”

Although he did have to find a way past a number of dangers throughout his six-match run, the AMC Pankration and Evolve MMA athlete was able to beat some of the hardest opponents on the platform thanks to his significant no-gi experience, high fight IQ, and superior agility.
Demetrious Johnson demonstrated his extensive submission skills during his six victories in Las Vegas, Nevada, and even secured an armbar submission on his route to winning the gold medal.
As he stood atop the podium, ‘Mighty Mouse’ was awarded a stripe, elevating his brown belt to the second degree and bringing him one step closer to the coveted black belt.
Given his strong performance at the IBJJF Masters Worlds, it is possible that the athlete would pursue a career in the submission grappling division of ONE Championship. Despite the fact that the athlete has not provided any information about his plans for the future, it is a distinct possibility.
