Bokang Masunyane, who holds the No. 2 spot in the strawweight contender rankings, expressed gratitude for Jarred Brook’s most recent instructional video on YouTube.
Following his spectacular victory over Hiroba Minowa in April, which was decided by majority decision, Masunyane is staring down the barrel of a potential fight for the ONE world title against the current holder of the strawweight belt, Jarred Brooks.
After shooting in for a double-leg takedown not too long ago, Brooks uploaded a video to YouTube in which he demonstrated how to avoid getting trapped in a guillotine choke and explained how to do so.
After coming so close to getting locked in the position during his fight with Minowa at ONE Fight Night 9, Bokang Masunyane was thankful for the advise that was given to him.
“Noted 🙏🏾🤣 The comment “I got su*ked in one with Hirobwa” was made by Masunyane in response to the video clip that Brooks had shared.
The South African standout won his first two matches in the promotion, but in his third outing, he faced Jarred Brooks and was submitted in the first round of their fight. This was the first time the South African had been defeated in the promotion.
After bouncing back with a victory over Japanese challenger Hiroba Minowa, Bokang Masunyane could find himself on a collision path with ‘The Monkey God’ once again in the near future. This time, for the world championship in the ONE strawweight division.
Following Brooks’ victory over Masunyane in the previous year, he was given the opportunity to compete for the ONE world title against Joshua ‘The Passion’ Pacio, a past champion, at ONE 164 in December. “The Monkey God” made the most of the occasion by capturing his first world championship with the promotion by virtue of a clear unanimous decision win.
In spite of the fact that Jarred Brooks has not yet successfully defended his title, a rematch with either Bokang Masunyane or Joshua Pacio is among the most likely outcomes. Who do you think Brooks should fight for the right to defend his world title at strawweight, and why?
