Chatri Sityodtong, chairman and CEO of ONE Championship, is ecstatic about the newest member of his organization’s roster and could not be more excited if he tried. Takeru Segawa is a Japanese kickboxing sensation, and the world’s top martial arts organization made the announcement a few of weeks ago that it has signed Takeru Segawa.
Almost immediately, speculation began to circulate regarding a number of prospective blockbuster pairings. Over the course of its history, ONE Championship has earned a well-deserved reputation for boasting some of the most accomplished strikers in the world. There is no question that ONE has signed the best player that Japan has to offer now that Takeru has joined the roster.
A recent press conference held in Tokyo to announce the signing of Takeru featured Sityodtong, who had a straightforward message for the most famous athlete in Japan.
He said:
“We have many good fighters like Haggerty, Superlek, Rodtang. Do your best, ok? Let’s make some new history together that Japanese fans have never experienced before, shall we?
Indeed, ONE Championship’s roster of elite fighters, many of whom compete in or around Takeru’s weight class, features a number of outstanding talents who have won world championships in their respective weight classes.
A duel with freshly crowned ONE bantamweight Muay Thai world champion ‘The General’ Jonathan Haggerty and ONE flyweight kickboxing world champion Superlek Kiatmoo9 is one of the potential blockbuster bouts.
But the battle that fans are most looking forward to is one that might take place between Takeru and Rodtang Jitmuangnon, who is the current flyweight Muay Thai king in ONE Championship and is known as “The Iron Man.”
Over the course of the past few years, Rodtang has established himself as one of the most prominent figures in the sport of Muay Thai. He gained widespread recognition for his performance against Demetrious ‘Mighty Mouse’ Johnson, a mixed martial arts legend and ONE flyweight world champion, as well as for the legendary toughness he has displayed in his bouts.
There are a lot of people who are interested to see how Takeru would fare against Rodtang in a battle, and it looks like they won’t have to wait too long to find out. As ONE Championship works to put together the bout, it seems likely that it will take place soon.
