On July 14, ONE Fight Night 12 will feature a fight at the featherweight division that could have repercussions for the world title.
According to what ONE Championship has confirmed to MMA Fighting, the seventh Amazon card of the year will feature a fight between second-ranked 155-pound challenger Garry Tonon and fifth-ranked Shamil Gasanov.
Tonon made the crossover to mixed martial arts after establishing a name for himself in the Brazilian jiu-jitsu circuit, where he was undefeated in his first six battles.
The former member of the Danaher Death Squad worked hard enough to earn a fight against Thanh Le, the former featherweight kingpin, at ONE: Lights Out, but he was knocked out in the second round.
“The Lion Killer” had a successful comeback earlier this year at ONE Fight Night 6, when he defeated Johnny Nunez with the use of a kimura and returned to his winning ways.
Tonon would do whatever in his power to keep the momentum rolling against a tough opponent who is looking to make his own case for a shot at the world crown.
Gasanov joins the organization based in Singapore with a lot of buzz a year ago because he was undefeated in his previous 13 contests. When “The Cobra” made his promotional debut, he ragdolled knockout artist Kim Jae Woong and finished the fight with a rear-naked choke. This performance more than lived up to the hype given to him.

After that excellent win, the Russian was scheduled to fight the former featherweight world champion Martin Nguyen, but Nguyen suffered an injury and the fight was postponed.
Gasanov is now functioning at his full capacity, and he intends to continue his ascent by passing Tonon on the way to the top. Both competitors are incredible submission artists, so it will be really intriguing to see which grappling technique ends up being the most successful.
As both Tonon and Gasanov are formidable strikers in their own right, we can anticipate that there will be nonstop action for the entirety of this bout.
