Even though he is as good as he is, multiple-time kickboxing world champion Takeru Segawa may occasionally catch himself off guard. The 31-year-old did exactly that in his most recent fight, when he won the vacant ISKA and KGP K-1 world lightweight title at MTGP Impact in Paris, France last month by knocking out his opponent Bailey Sugden with a head kick. This victory earned him the title.
At the 2:58 mark of the fifth round, Takeru knocked out his opponent Sugden for the decisive victory. Takeru was ecstatic with his performance, as he had just won with a head kick knockout for the very first match, which was also the first time he has ever won.
Takeru gave some insight into his head kick knockout technique during a recent interview with ONE Championship.
The man, who is 31, stated that
“The fact that I was able to do something like that was a surprise to me. In training, I’m able to pull it off, but in actual combat, it’s a different story. I uncovered an untapped talent deep within myself.”
When Takeru eventually makes his debut in ONE Championship before the end of the year, he will need to pull out all of the tricks in his arsenal in order to be successful.
Many people believe that the ONE Championship showcases the very best striking talent in all of kickboxing and Muay Thai. This view is supported by the fact that the ONE Championship has been running for a decade.
There is no doubt that ONE has some amazing talent on its roster, with names such as reigning ONE flyweight Muay Thai world champion Rodtang ‘The Iron Man’ Jitmuangnon, reigning ONE flyweight kickboxing world champion Superlek Kiatmoo9, and many others within the ranks.
Fans would love to see some of the extremely interesting matchup concepts that have been made possible by the signing of Takeru Segawa really come to fruition.
There is no information available at this time regarding when Takeru will make his highly awaited promotional debut, nor is there any information regarding a possible opponent. Having said that, you can rest assured that millions of fans from every corner of the globe will be tuning in to see when Takeru enters the Circle.
