In a recent interview, Jamahal Hill said that Jiri Prochazka is the man he wants to face for his first championship defence and that he is prepared to wait until the summer for the Czech fighter to heal from his shoulder injury before moving on to a different opponent. At UFC 283, Hill most recently defeated Glover Teixeira to win the light heavyweight title.
Due to ‘Denisa’s’ decision to give up the UFC light heavyweight title after suffering a severe shoulder injury, Jamahal Hill was able to profit from his title opportunity. Due to this, Prochazka was had to cancel their arranged rematch, which was initially set for this past December.
After Jan Blachowicz and Magomed Ankalaev’s title match ended in a draw, Jamahal Hill and Teixeira were scheduled to face each other at UFC 283.
Hill was recently questioned about his ideal first opponent by MMA Junkie’s Mike Bohn, to which “Sweet Dreams” responded:
“I’m crossing my fingers that it’s [Jiri Prochazka]. I’ve been waiting for the Jiri battle for a very long time. I am aware of how significant a conflict that would be, and I believe its impact would be enormous. I believe I have won. In every way, I believe I excel over Jiri. After July or August, I’m willing to wait, but I believe the next man up should step up.
Jiri Prochazka unimpressed with Jamahal Hill’s performance at UFC 283
Jiri Prochazka recently discussed Jamahal Hill’s elevation to the title of light heavyweight, and the former 205-pound champion wasn’t overly thrilled with Hill’s hitting ability.
Jamahal Hill was focused and prepared as he outclassed Glover Teixeira over the course of five rounds, winning the contest 50-44 on all scorecards to win the light heavyweight title.
However, Jiri Prochazka was asked if there was anything about Jamahal Hill’s performance that stuck out in a recent interview with Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour. The native Czech answered:
“Nothing from him… He talked about his strength. His punching force and all these other things… Glover then demonstrated to everyone that his punches don’t have a lot of power. Glover surprised me more than Jamahal Hill did, though, as it appeared that it was not his night.”
