Mikey Musumeci will attempt to defend his ONE Flyweight Submission Grappling World Championship at ONE Fight Night 13. This will be the third time that Mikey has competed for the title.
In his two previous defenses of the title, he faced competitors who specialized in jiu-jitsu and sambo. On Friday, August 4, he will compete against opponents who possess yet another skill set.
Jarred Brooks, the promotion’s current strawweight mixed martial arts (MMA) king, was looking for a new opponent. And he’ll be the one that goes into the Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand, to try to wrestle ‘Darth Rigatoni’s 26-pound of gold.
When he goes up against Musumeci, “The Monkey God,” who never backs down from a challenge, will attempt to pull off one of the most shocking victories that ONE Championship has ever witnessed.
Brooks possesses a one-of-a-kind skill set that Musumeci has not yet encountered inside the circle, despite the fact that ‘Darth Rigatoni’ may have a significant advantage in terms of elite-level grappling expertise over his opponent.
Brooks has been able to overwhelm his opponents at strawweight with his grappling by utilizing his aggressive wrestling basis, and he will want to put the same kind of pace and pressure on the champion that is now holding the title on August 4.
In an interview with ONE Championship, Mikey Musumeci discussed the ways in which Brooks’ MMA style and self-assured mindset made him a formidable opponent:
“He’s going to be a tough guy to finish, like he’s definitely not an easy guy to sub, so I have to work really hard to sub him,” the coach said. “He’s definitely not an easy guy to sub.”
Jarred Brooks has the capacity to put on a show no matter who he is competing against, which is one thing that is certain about him as he strives to become a world champion in two different sports.
On Friday, August 4, viewers in North America with an active membership to Amazon Prime Video will be able to watch ONE Fight Night 13 live and for free on Amazon Prime Video.
