Demetrious Johnson is determined not to provide any information on the next stage of his career in mixed martial arts. While the rest of the world waits for his choice, the MMA athlete who has won 14 world championships and competes for ONE Championship is diverting his attention elsewhere.
At the IBJJF Master Worlds, which will take place in Las Vegas from August 31 to September 2 this year, the current ONE Flyweight MMA World Champion will make his debut in the submission grappling discipline.
Mighty Mouse will compete in the men’s Master 2 featherweight division at the brown belt level in the hope of launching a new adventure before returning to the worldwide stage of ONE Championship.
Since his victory over Adriano Moraes at ONE Fight Night 10, which gave him the world title, the father of three has acknowledged that his focus is now mostly on his family back at home.
Even though he has hinted in previous interviews that he may be losing interest in the all-encompassing sport of mixed martial arts (MMA), it would appear that he is still ready to study and improve his skills.
In an interview with MMA Junkie, Demetrious Johnson said that his practice of “the gentle art” has kept him occupied in his spare time. He emphasized once more that there has been no decision made regarding his future mixed martial arts battle as of yet.
The man, who is 37 years old, stated:
“It should come as no surprise to you that I’ve been preoccupied with jiu-jitsu. And because of that, I’ve been putting in extra effort in my training. Aside from that, though, nothing has been decided upon definitively yet.
