Ian Garry, a fellow UFC welterweight fighter, has been banned from training at the gym owned by Leon Edwards because “Leon doesn’t want any insecurities.”

Published:

Ian Garry, a rising welterweight contender, has disclosed that he would not be permitted to train at Leon Edwards’ gym. This news comes after it was purportedly reported that the welterweight kingpin and his coach moved Team Renegade to prohibit Ian Garry from the facility.

Edwards’ trainer, Dave Lovell, supposedly does not want the emerging star to create any “doubts” or “insecurities” in the welterweight kingpin. The undefeated Irishman is one of the best prospects in the 170 pounds class.

The 25-year-old man provided the following explanation for why he is being expelled from Team Renegade despite the fact that the organization is very welcoming during an interview with The Independent:

“Leon Edwards, his head coach, has requested that I do not return to Renegade and has informed me that I am not permitted to train there… Because Leon doesn’t want any insecurities or doubts on his own mats within the gym, which I don’t fully understand, his head coach and he had a problem with my exercising on the mats, and they recently asked me not to train there. “Leon doesn’t want any insecurities or doubts on his own mats within the gym,” they said.

Garry is obviously upset that he will not be able to practice at Team Renegade, which he considers to be the most reputable mixed martial arts (MMA) gym in the United Kingdom. In his words:

“Renegade is the finest fitness center in the United Kingdom. I went there to get instruction from the locals in the Birmingham area, who have effectively demonstrated that it is the top gym in the United Kingdom. I didn’t go there to work out with Leon; rather, I went there to work out with that gym’s incredible staff since they’re so good. [Citation needed for The Independent]”
At his most recent bout, which took place in April at UFC 292, ‘The Future’ prevailed over Neil Magny by way of unanimous decision. At UFC 296, which will take place in December, he is slated to compete against Vicente Luque, who is also a member of his squad.

Ian Garry says Leon Edwards will “annihilate” Colby Covington

At UFC 296, Leon Edwards is slated to compete against Colby Covington, who has previously challenged for the welterweight title twice, and Ian Garry feels that ‘Rocky’ will present an obstacle that the American fighter cannot overcome.

When Covington sat down for an interview with Nik Hobbs of Sky Sports, it was clear to see that ‘The Future’ does not have a particularly high opinion of him. Throughout the course of the episode, he expressed the opinion that the Englishman is going to make short work of ‘Chaos’:

Colby Covington is completely and utterly destroyed by Leon Edwards. Colby Covington is a piece of crap… He receives a lot of praise for being unsuccessful. Let me tell you right now that contrary to what Colby Covington would like others to believe, he is not the person that he portrays himself to be. In the octagon, Leon Edwards is going to finish him off quickly and easily.”
