This week, Filipino strawweight boxer Lito Adiwang is scheduled to make his comeback to action after an injury, and the opponent he will be facing is one that Adiwang views as the ideal matchup for him.
At the next installment of ONE Friday Fights, which will take place on September 22, ‘Thunder Kid’ will compete against Indonesia’s Adrian Mattheis. At the Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, there will be a total of 11 fights taking place, one of which is a mixed martial arts match at the strawweight division.
In an interview with The MMA Superfan, 30-year-old Lito Adiwang stated that he believes ONE did a fantastic job in pairing him up with the ‘Papua Badboy,’ as he sees the latter as bringing out the best in him, which will be beneficial for his confidence. Adiwang is looking forward to fighting the winner of this matchup.
The two-time wushu national champion of the Philippines said the following:
“In my opinion, I am able to claim that he is the ideal competitor because he has previously defeated a former champion, and he has been competing professionally since 2017. His heart is one of a warrior, and his fighting spirit is one of a fighter. He is willing to trade blows with me, and right now I need an opponent who is willing to do battle with me in the same way.
He continued by saying:
“I am aware that he is capable of restoring my self-assurance, which is why I stated that he is the ideal competitor for me. And I think we can all agree that, in addition to being a dangerous opponent, he is also not your typical boxer.
Take a look at the interview down below:
After suffering a knee injury during his fight against fellow countryman Jeremy Miado in Japan in March of the previous year, Lito Adiwang was forced to concede defeat via technical knockout.
The persistent pain in his injured knee prevented him from continuing with his return to competition in January, which had been the original target date for his comeback. But he was able to complete the prescribed treatment for his addiction and is now prepared for the fight.
After making the decision earlier this year to part ways with Team Lakay, Lito Adiwang prepared for his return to competition by working out at HIIT Studio in Bali.
Adrian Mattheis, age 30, is competing against Zelang Zhaxi of China, whom he defeated in just 57 seconds during their bout in February. Mattheis is looking to make it back-to-back triumphs following their match. Since making his debut in September 2017, he has been a member of ONE Championship, which is an international mixed martial arts organization.
