“Wonder Boy” Fabricio Andrade, who currently holds the title of reigning and undisputed ONE bantamweight MMA world champion, has stated that it was always his intention to compete in kickboxing and earn a belt from the largest martial arts organization in the world. However, because of his achievements in mixed martial arts, he had to put that desire on hold for a while.
Now, Andrade has the chance to make a desire that he’s had his whole life come true, and even more.
The main event of ONE Fight Night 16: Haggerty vs. Andrade will feature ‘Wonder Boy’ going up against ‘The General’ Jonathan Haggerty, who holds the title of ONE bantamweight Muay Thai world champion. This fight will take place on Prime Video.
On Friday, November 3, the event will be presented in real time via live transmission from the illustrious Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand. The bout will be contested for the unclaimed bantamweight kickboxing world title held by ONE. If Andrade prevails, he will join an elite group of athletes who have won titles in two different ONE Championship sports.
Andrade discussed his journey with ONE Fighting Championships up to this point in a recent interview with FightWave. He also discussed the reasons why everything is coming full circle for him.
The man, who was 26, stated:
“This has been an amazing experience. Now that I have accomplished my goal of being a world champion in mixed martial arts (MMA), which was a dream of mine, I have the opportunity to compete for another belt in a different sport, which is kickboxing… I had a dream of being a world champion in kickboxing as well, but I was never given the opportunity to pursue that dream. Before I signed with ONE Championship, I was certainly more active in kickboxing, and I had that dream before I signed with ONE Championship. While I was competing in China, I was never given the opportunity to fight for the title in that country.
“Even after I had signed with ONE, they were more interested in keeping me fighting in MMA because I was performing well in MMA, and after all that had happened, I finally got the opportunity to go back and finally become the world champion in kickboxing. That’s why I’m overjoyed that I’ll soon have the opportunity to participate in activities of that nature.
