Mikey Musumeci has been on an unstoppable run ever since he signed with ONE Championship. This streak has demonstrated his superiority at the very highest level of the sport.
“Darth Rigatoni” has been helping to develop the sport that he has committed his life to into new and interesting ways thanks to the fact that he is one of three people in the promotion to hold the submission grappling world championship.
As a result of his ability to put on thrilling matches against the sport’s best opponents, the world champion has become an excellent ambassador for submission grappling.
Musumeci is going to take a vacation from defending his flyweight belt in order to engage in a contest that the fans never thought they would witness. This will be Musumeci’s next bout inside the circle.
It’s possible that the current world champion is leading the way in submission grappling, but none of this would be possible if it weren’t for the fighters who came before them and blazed the trail.
In an openweight bout at ONE Fight Night 15, Mikey Musumeci will square off against Shinya Aoki, a legend of the combat sports industry. It will be a battle between two different eras.
Even though “Darth Rigatoni” is currently at the top of his game, he is not naive enough to think that he can overlook any opponent, and especially not one with the expertise of Aoki.
In an interview with ONE Championship, Musumeci discussed the impact that the fact that they will be competing in a no-gi catchweight bout will have on the outcome of this fight. He said the following:
“It’s going to be a very interesting match,” the announcer said. Can I kill him off now? as in, are you going to find it interesting? He is more powerful. Because you are not wearing a gi when competing in no-gi, it is more difficult to submit opponents who have a higher level of strength than you do. For example, if I take his back while you are wearing the gi, it won’t be difficult because you have a collar. But in no-gi hand combat, every little detail counts when you’re up against bigger guys.
ONE Fight Night 15 will be broadcast live and for free during primetime in the United States for viewers in North America who have a current membership to Amazon Prime Video.
