Edgar Tabares has set a goal for himself to achieve the same degree of success as Rodtang and Superlek before they call it quits.

Edgar Tabares is not the type of person to wallow in defeat after suffering a setback. When the Mexican star made his ONE Championship debut at ONE Fight Night 10: Johnson vs. Moraes III on Prime Video this past weekend in Denver, Colorado, he entered into the den of wolves and faced off against some formidable opponents.Edgar Tabares was unsuccessful in his challenging attempt to unseat Rodtang Jitmuangnon as the ONE flyweight Muay Thai world champion during ONE Championship’s first on-site event in the United States, which took place at the 1stBank Centre in front of a sold-out crowd.

Despite the defeat, Tabares saw the setback as an opportunity for introspection and even found inspiration from Rodtang and Superlek Kiatmoo9, who are both world champions in their respective weight classes in kickboxing.

Edgar Tabares pledged to one day reach the same degree of success as Rodtang and Superlek by publishing a picture of themselves on Instagram together in which all three individuals appeared to be smiling broadly.”I’m old enough and self-aware enough to know that I have a long way to go to live up to these two. But I assure you that I will be there before they hang up their boots.”
Even though the 29-year-old fighter was well aware that his debut in ONE Championship would be a difficult test for him, he did not let this knowledge prevent him from going on the offensive against Rodtang.

Tabares was quite vicious with his roundhouse kicks, and in the first round he even landed a few of spinning back elbows on Rodtang, which caused him to be tagged.

Rodtang, on the other hand, became considerably more belligerent in the second round and ultimately made the decision to throw in the towel.

After Tabares whirled for another elbow, Rodtang immediately threw one of his own, perfectly timed elbows, which caused Tabares to fall to the ground.

At 1 minute and 34 seconds into the second round, referee Olivier Coste put an end to the fight after determining that Tabares was unable to continue.

For anyone with a subscription to Prime Video in North America, a free replay of ONE Fight Night 10 is now accessible.
