Following his defeat against Charles Oliveira at UFC 289, Beneil Dariush has remarked about the overwhelming support he has received from fans.

If Dariush were to defeat Oliveira at UFC 289, he would have been well on his road to potentially earning a shot at the title. Before his bout with the Brazilian, the lightweight had won his previous eight fights in a row, putting him on a winning streak that stretched all the way back to when he first started competing. The lightweight who was ranked number four told Submission Radio that he had a lot of love from supporters despite the fact that he lost the fight:

“I’ve never had so many people come up to me and be so supportive, saying things like, ‘Oh my gosh, it’s your time, blah, blah, blah.'” People that really enjoy fighting may be able to tell the difference between it and other combat sports because I’ve never participated in this one. Fights are a lot of fun for me. But to have the support of so many people, and especially in places where I didn’t really have to modify who I am, that’s just incredible.
He added:

“I had no idea that something like this would ever happen to me in my professional life, so it’s been a very special experience,” she said.

Beneil Dariush also shared his thoughts on how he had always imagined himself to be one of those fighters who would not get known but would simply do his job and walk out of the ring. On the other hand, things have turned out rather differently, and his admirers have been lavishing him with praise and encouragement.

Beneil Dariush defended Amanda Nunes and said his fight was not the ‘real main event’

Fans of mixed martial arts referred to the fight between Charles Oliveira and Beneil Dariush as the “real main event” of UFC 289. The fight between Amanda Nunes and Irene Aldana was the main event of the card; nevertheless, the fans weren’t satisfied with the lightweight co-main event since the stakes were too high, and many of them considered the fight as the primary attraction.

Dariush defended Nunes and spoke about how it was a privilege for him to be on the same card as ‘The Lioness’ in an interview that took place prior to the pay-per-view event:

“I’ve had a lot of people tell me that you and Charles are the major attraction… and I need to make sure that I halt and let them know that. Take it from me, Amanda Nunes, who is widely considered to be the best female fighter of all time. The majority of what they have to say is not anything I agree with. I explain to them that she was placed there for a purpose, and that I support the choice that was made. Being able to use the same card as her is an honor for me.
