Nguyen, who is 34 years old and has not competed since February 2023, will be making his return to the ring for the first time. In that fight, he defeated Brazilian Leonardo Casotti by unanimous decision by a unanimous decision.

In a conversation with ONE Championship, the Australian-Vietnamese fighter, who is a former world champion in both the featherweight and lightweight divisions of mixed martial arts, discussed the way he believes his bout with Tonon would unfold and the mentality he takes into consideration.

According to Martin Nguyen:

“I have a great deal of respect for him and all of the accolades that he is achieving, and I am very certain that he feels the same way about reciprocity as well. As a result, we are going to go in there, hit each other in the face, attempt to shatter one other’s bones, and then we are going to earn our money and go on.

“I do not have the impression that there is any hostility or anything similar to that. There is not a single bone of hostility in my body, and I am certain that he feels the same way; it is only a matter of some healthy rivalry.

This moment, Nguyen is the third-ranked contender in the featherweight class of the ONE Mixed Martial Arts organization. At ONE 165, Garry Tonon, who is now listed as the top contender, is looking to make it three wins in a row after his previous victory.

Following the conclusion of the match between Tonon and Nguyen, the victor of the match may be eligible for a title shot.

Martin Nguyen seeks to employ various ways to defeat Garry Tonon at ONE 165

In preparation for his forthcoming battle against Garry Tonon, which will take place at ONE 165: Superlek vs. Takeru, the Australian-Vietnamese fighter Martin Nguyen has stated that he has planned a variety of strategies to cope with Tonon and get that victory.

At this event, which marks the return of ONE Championship to the ‘Land of the Rising Sun’ after nearly five years, the two fighters who are currently rated at the top of the featherweight class will compete against each other in a mixed martial arts showdown.

During an interview with the South China Morning Post, “The Situ-Asian” revealed that he and his crew had spared no effort in their preparation for the confrontation with “The Lion Killer.” They had left no stone unturned. It was him who said:

In addition to what I just mentioned, this is not a jiu-jitsu match at all. On the other hand, this is not a jiu-jitsu match, despite the fact that Garry is a really talented jiu-jitsu practitioner and is likely among the very best in the world. I am of the opinion that jiu-jitsu is, without a doubt, an excellent art form to have under your belt.

He went on to say:

“However, you should know that this is, as I mentioned earlier, mixed martial arts. You are aware that it is a combination of everything, right? You can win in a wide range of different ways, and I’m going to demonstrate that to you during the fight.
