Angela Lee has announced her retirement from mixed martial arts and will be leaving her ONE championship belt behind.

Published:

Angela Lee, the inaugural atomweight queen of ONE Fight Night, made the announcement that she would be retiring from the sport after nearly a decade of supremacy on Friday night, which caused a very emotional scene at ONE Fight Night 14, which took place in Singapore.

While walking to the cage with the ONE world title draped over her shoulder, Lee proceeded to thank ONE Championship, CEO and creator Chatri Sityodtong, and the fans for the years of support she received throughout her distinguished career in combat sports. Lee lay down the 26 pounds of gold and walked to the cage.

“I’m here today to make the official announcement that I will be retiring. These past eight years have flown by in a flash. I’d want to begin by extending my gratitude to everyone, including the fans, ONE Championship, Chatri, my teams, and all of you in general. There have been a great number of fights both inside and outside of the cage. The last thing I want to say is that the greatest battle we are going to face won’t be with an opponent standing in front of us. I want to say this to both the fighters and to everyone watching right now. The most important conflict will be fought within ourselves.”Each and every one of us faces adversity, but we persevere. And each day, we are triumphant when we choose to stand up in the face of adversity, so thank you so much for all of your support and encouragement. I adore you, and I am grateful.

Now that she has finished her career in mixed martial arts (MMA), Angela Lee plans to devote her attention to her sister Victoria Lee’s mental health organization, FightStory, which she founded in honor of her sister after Victoria Lee sadly took her own life in December of 2022.

This is what Lee said to Mitch Chilson:

“Victoria, my older sister, was the inspiration behind the creation of FightStory. I have made the decision to pay tribute to her and her life by moving on with my life and assisting other people… At FightStory, our primary objective is to prevent unnecessary deaths. We think that telling the truth, working to raise awareness, and building a community where everyone can feel safe are the most important things.

Angela Lee is retiring from MMA with a remarkable 11-3 record and an 83% finish rate, with eight of her victories coming by way of submission. Her finish rate is impressive because of the way she won her fights.
