On June 10, Amanda Nunes competed in her final MMA bout at UFC 289. The event took place at the Rogers Arena in Vancouver, Canada, and was hosted by Canada. The event’s main attraction was the UFC women’s bantamweight champion, who was scheduled to defend her title against the formidable Irene Aldana of Mexico.
Nunes displayed a superb performance, which validated her heavy favorite status, and completely smashed Aldana her route to a huge victory via unanimous decision with scores of 50-44, 50-44, and 50-43. Following that, ‘The Lioness’ made the decision to hang up her gloves, putting an end to an era in women’s mixed martial arts (MMA) that will be known for her domination.
Amanda Nunes, in the post-fight interview inside the octagon, stated that she felt it was important for her to spend time with her family and other loved ones.
“This is something that my mum has been nagging me to do for a very long time. She is at her limit and cannot continue. Nina, the same goes for my family. She has spent a significant amount of time hanging out with me. Consequently, I have made a decision at this second. I am aware that we are unable to consume everything that I prepare for us on a daily basis. It is imperative that I be with my family. In addition to that, I need to spend some time with my family in Brazil because I have to abandon them at such a young age to pursue this goal…I would like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to Dana for supporting me, Hunter, and everyone else involved in the production of these concerts by always being there for us.
