Kara-France vs. Albazi, also known as UFC on ESPN 46, is an upcoming mixed martial arts event that will be produced by the Ultimate Fighting Championship and will take place on June 3, 2023 at the UFC Apex facility in Enterprise, Nevada, United States. Enterprise is located in the Las Vegas Metropolitan Area.
Fight Background:
The main event was supposed to be a fight in the middleweight division between Jack Hermansson and Brendan Allen, who had previously held the title of LFA Middleweight Champion. However, Hermansson pulled out of the fight in late April citing an unexplained ailment, which resulted in the bout being canceled. The fight between Allen and Bruno Silva was eventually rescheduled to take place on June 25 during UFC on ABC: Emmett vs. Topuria. As a direct consequence of this, the flyweight fight that was planned to take place between Kai Kara-France, a past challenger for the interim title of the UFC Flyweight Championship, and Amir Albazi, was elevated to the position of main event.
Tim Elliott, a former challenger for the UFC Flyweight Championship, and Allan Nascimento, the winner of the flyweight division of The Ultimate Fighter: Tournament of Champions, were scheduled to compete against one other in a flyweight match at the event. On April 28, however, Nascimento withdrew from the fight for reasons that have not been disclosed, and he was replaced by Victor Altamirano, a former LFA Flyweight Champion.
Miesha Tate, a former champion in both Strikeforce and the UFC at the women’s bantamweight division, was scheduled to compete against Mayra Bueno Silva in a bout at this weight class. On the other hand, it was revealed on May 10 that Tate had been injured in some way that was not specified, and as a result, Bueno Silva was rescheduled to be the main event of UFC Fight Night: Holm vs. Bueno Silva against another former champion, Holly Holm.
At this event, it was anticipated that David Onama will square off against Khusein Askhabov in a fight at the featherweight division. However, Askhabov withdrew from the competition for reasons that are not clear. Instead, Onama was rescheduled to fight Gabriel Santos at the UFC on ABC event that featured Emmett and Topuria.
It was anticipated that Jim Miller and udot Klein would fight it out in a lightweight matchup. However, Klein withdrew from the race on May 19 owing to illness, and Jared Gordon was chosen to take his place.
