Introduction:
Deiveson Alcântara Figueiredo is a Brazilian mixed martial artist who born on December 18, 1987. He is the two-time and current UFC Flyweight Champion and competes in the Flyweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). He is ranked #10 in the UFC men’s pound-for-pound rankings as of October 24, 2022.
Background:
Figueiredo was born in Soure, Pará, Brazil, a little town on the island of Marajó where buffaloes are allowed to graze freely. His father was a buffalo herder who also wrestled in the regional folk style known as luta marajoara. Francisco, Deiveson’s younger brother and sister, is a professional mixed martial artist who competes for the UFC. He was a cowboy who, up until the age of thirteen, worked on an animal farm with his father. He started wrestling when he was about nine years old, following in his father’s footsteps. He relocated to Belém to finish high school and began capoeira instruction. After he met Iuri “Marajó” Alcântara when he was sixteen, he began training MMA.
Career in Ultimate Fighting Championship:
On June 3, 2017, at UFC 212, Figueiredo made his professional debut against Marco Beltran. After round two, the fight was stopped in the corners by technical knockout.
On October 28, 2017, at UFC Fight Night, he faced off against Jarred Brooks in Brunson vs. Machida.
He prevailed in a close decision.
Figueiredo took on Joseph Morales on February 3, 2018 at UFC Fight Night: Machida vs. Anders. In the second round, he achieved a technical knockout victory.
At UFC Fight Night 135 on August 25, 2018, Figueiredo faced John Moraga. At 3:08 in the second round, he was declared the winner via technical knockout.
At UFC Fight Night 143 on January 19, 2019, Joseph Benavidez and Figueiredo were scheduled to square off. The promotion, however, made it clear that the combination was off and that Figueiredo would be moved to a different event.
On March 23, 2019, Figueiredo fought Jussier Formiga at UFC Fight Night 148. Figueiredo suffered his first professional defeat as a result of the fight’s unanimous decision loss.
On July 27, 2019, Figueiredo competed against Alexandre Pantoja at UFC 240. He prevailed by unanimous judgement in the match. He won the Fight of the Night prize for this battle.
On October 12, 2019, Figueiredo fought Tim Elliott at UFC Fight Night 161. In the opening round, he submitted to win the fight.
