Following an outstanding effort against Regis Prograis throughout the course of this past weekend, Devin Haney was able to successfully become the new WBC light welterweight champion.
At the conclusion of the fight, “The Dream” was declared the winner by a unanimous decision, with all three judges giving him a score of 120-107 in his favor. With this victory, Haney’s record of not losing a single game now stands at 31-0.
Following the conclusion of the fight, Ryan Garcia went on X to make a public challenge to the newly crowned WBC light welterweight champion. “KingRy” wrote the following:
“There is no question that Haney is good, but I am well aware of him, and I will prevail over him. Congratulation on the good stuff tonight, but this year we are going to be the ones to run it!!!

It was during Garcia’s post-fight news conference that Haney was made aware of the callout that Garcia had issued. A statement was made by “The Dream” in response to the challenge:
“There is a chance with that. That’s a monumental battle. I have been calling Ryan out for years now, so it is encouraging to learn that he is now interested in engaging in a fight. It’s a shame that it came after he had already suffered a loss. However, the event was merely a matter of time. It appears like he is finally ready to confront me. At the end of the day, however, it is still a great battle. I want to make the most thrilling battles possible, and I want to make the most intense bouts possible.

The year 2023 was a good one for ‘The Dream’ Devin Haney, who finished it off with a remarkable victory against Regis Prograis. When combined with his victory over Vasily Lomachenko in May, ‘The Dream’ has had a fantastic year.
Eddie Hearn showers Devin Haney in praise following a superb performance
It has been said by Eddie Hearn, chairman of Matchroom Boxing, that the performance of Devin Haney against Regis Prograis is comparable to the legendary knockout that Floyd Mayweather Jr. delivered against Arturo Gatti.
According to Compubox, Haney, who is Hearn’s client, stunned his opponent on his way to a victory by unanimous decision. Prograis, on the other hand, landed the fewest punches ever thrown by a fighter over the course of 12 rounds.
Hearn is of the opinion that his fighter has the potential to achieve even greater success in the welterweight division than he did at the light welterweight division versus Prograis. During an interview with Boxing Social, he discussed his thoughts on Haney’s performance, saying the following:
“He discusses the possibility of reaching 147 pounds. For Devin, this is not a problem. I believe that he will be much more powerful at 147 pounds, and there are a lot of fantastic matches that are waiting for him. Oscar De La Hoya and Ryan Garcia have been a part of the news for quite some time now, and I believe that it is a natural competition for DAZN… It is impossible to determine who is capable of defeating him, and the only way he could lose is if he moves up an excessive number of weight divisions.
