Alongside organizations such as the WBA, WBO, and IBF, the World Boxing Council (WBC) is widely regarded as one of the most influential sanctioning bodies in the sport of boxing. Ring Magazine and the sanctioning authorities of the sport have always been at odds with one another because of the intricate history of the sport. The conflict between Ring Magazine and the World Boxing Council (WBC) appears to have moved to the forefront at this time.
Recently, the President of the World Boxing Council (WBC), Mauricio Sulaiman, expressed his confusion on the level of credibility that is accorded to Ring Magazine by the boxing community. During an interview with iFL TV, he referred the Ring Magazine as “mere media” and openly questioned why boxers accorded such a high level of esteem to the publication’s titles.
In addition to this, he responded to Ring Magazine’s claim that the sport of boxing’s most prominent organizations and sanctioning bodies are corrupt. The level of respect accorded to the Ring Magazine belt, which typically signifies the lineal champion who defeated a division’s uncontested titleholder, is one source of Sulaiman’s fury. Another source of Sulaiman’s indignation is the fact that the Ring Magazine belt was awarded to him.

The fact that the highest-ranked boxers are required to compete against each other in a boxing bout and that there are no fees associated with the sanctioning of the event has contributed to its widespread praise in the boxing community. Sulaiman’s rant prompted a number of responses from sports fans on X and Twitter, many of which were critical of him and his behavior.
Even worse, one of his supporters called him a hypocrite:
What a piece of hypcorite. The World Boxing Council, which “literally tries to rinse every cent out of every possible fight even when their title is not on the line!!! “
In the meantime, another supporter laughed at Sulaiman’s comments about having integrity:
“Are you making fun of me? What do you expect Mauricio Sulaiman and his organization to know about credibility!?
One supporter went as far as to say that the exchange amounted to the proverbial case of the pot calling the kettle black:
“This is like Jack The Ripper calling Jeffrey Dahmer a bad person for murdering people”
Sulaiman’s criticism that Ring Magazine puts a much emphasis on financial gain was ridiculed in another comment as follows:
They are a commercial enterprise. They have financial success. They have a prejudice. Wholly and entirely random.’ Along with being crooked and serving just its own interests, these are the same allegations that have been leveled about the WBC Boxing over the previous four decades. Statements made in a hypocritical manner by an organization that has done as much as anybody else to undermine boxing.
What did the WBC do for the Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs Conor McGregor fight?
The bout between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Conor McGregor was overseen by the sanctioning organization. To be more specific, it produced the commemorative ‘Money Belt’ for the two of them to compete for. The championship strap was crafted from alligator leather, and the 24-karat gold plate was bejeweled with emeralds, diamonds, and sapphires.
Mayweather defeated McGregor via technical knockout in the tenth round to emerge triumphant and win the belt. The money that the Irishman received, on the other hand, would go on to pique the curiosity of many mixed martial artists (MMA), many of whom continue pursue boxing contests to this day.
