With a professional record of 76 victories and just five defeats, George Foreman is considered to be one of the sport’s all-time greats. However, despite the glitz and glamour of his professional success, his personal life hasn’t been without its share of challenges.
Mary Joan Martelly is Foreman’s current wife, making this the sixth time he has been married. The year 1985 was the year when the pair tied the knot. It’s interesting to note that they started having an affair a year before they got married, while he was still married to Andrea Skeete at the time.
In 1971, George Foreman tied the knot for the very first time with Adrienne Calhoun. The marriage of the pair was dissolved in 1974, after only being together for a total of three years. After another three years had passed, in 1977, Foreman married his second wife, Cynthia Lewis. Sadly, the couple’s marriage did not last for very long either, as it ended in divorce in the year 1979.
Foreman remarried in 1981, this time to Sharon Godson, who was his second wife. The pair finally parted ways in the year 1982. In the same year, the legendary boxer tied the knot with Andrea Skeete, but their union only lasted for three years before they divorced in 1985, despite the fact that they had two children together during their time together.
There are no allegations that George Foreman has cheated on his wife Mary, who he is now married to. On the other hand, during one of his earlier marriages, he was unfaithful to his partner.
According to the website Distractify, there is evidence that Foreman had an affair with a lady called Pamela Clay when he was married to his first wife, Adrienne Calhoun. Foreman married Adrienne Calhoun in December 1971. She is the mother of George Foreman Jr., the eldest of the Foreman family’s children.
George Foreman speaks about fighting Muhammad Ali in Africa
Back in 1974, Foreman was presented with the opportunity to compete against another of boxing’s all-time greats, Muhammad Ali. The once-in-a-lifetime bout, which was being advertised as a “Rumble in the Jungle,” took place in Africa, as opposed to the United States of America, where all of his other fights had taken place in the past.
The highly anticipated heavyweight title fight took place at the Stade du 20 Mai in Kinshasa, Zaire (now known as the Republic of Congo). Muhammad Ali emerged victorious in the end. Regarding the same topic, Foreman was recently asked by a fan if he favored having the fight take place in the United States rather than elsewhere.
In reaction to this, George Foreman asserted that it was a fantastic chance to travel to a different region of the world and said the following:
“Just like the other fighters, I followed the money wherever it led. Nevertheless, traveling to a different region of the world was an amazing experience. Everything went smoothly, with the exception of the loss. The fact that you were a part of history is what makes it so amazing now.”
